Operation Steps: Open the daylight plate and place 2-3 drops of distilled water on the main prism. Close the daylight plate and gently press so the water spreads over the entire surface without air bubbles. Wait 30 seconds for the sample to reach room temperature. Hold the daylight plate towards a light source and look into the eyepiece to see a circular field with graduations. Focus the eyepiece to see the graduations clearly. The upper part of the field is blue, the lower part is white. Take the reading where the blue and white dividing line crosses the graduated scale. Clean the instrument with a soft, damp cloth after measurement. Calibrate to 0 using distilled water because the alcohol content of distilled water is 0%. This ensures accurate measurement and adjustment of focus ensures a clear reading.
