Ugni molinae 'Pretty Berry', Chilean guava, height 25cm, 2-liter pot.

Ugni molinae 'Pretty Berry', better known as Chilean guava, is a compact evergreen shrub with small, glossy leaves, white flowers, and aromatic red berries. Due to its modest size, this special fruit plant is perfectly suited for a small garden, an edible border, or a spacious pot on the patio. Small white flowers appear in late spring. Later, wine-red to red berries develop with a sweet, aromatic, and fruity flavor often described as strawberry-like. The fruits can be eaten fresh but are also suitable for processing. Why choose Ugni 'Pretty Berry'? • Edible, aromatic red berries • Compact growth to approximately 75–100 cm • Evergreen and therefore decorative almost year-round • White flowering in late spring • Suitable for garden and pot cultivation • Unique fruit variety from South America • A beautiful choice for lovers of unusual small fruit Contents of this product • 1 x Ugni molinae 'Pretty Berry' – Chilean guava• Pot size: 2 liters• Height at delivery: approx. 25 cm (indicative) The plant is supplied in a nursery pot and continues to grow after planting. Height, branching, amount of foliage, and the possible presence of flowers or fruit may vary depending on the season. Flowering and edible fruits In May and June, the Chilean guava can bloom with small white flowers. These stand out beautifully against the fine dark green leaves. After successful flowering, small berries develop that turn red to wine-red as they ripen. The fruits are typically ripe in August and September. The taste is sweet and strongly aromatic, with fruity notes often compared to strawberries. The berries can be eaten directly from the bush, but are also nice to use in jam, desserts, or other sweet preparations. Compact and evergreen growth 'Pretty Berry' develops into a compact, densely branched shrub approximately 75 to 100 cm tall and about the same width. This makes the plant suitable for locations where there is little space available for larger fruit bushes. The small oval leaves normally remain on the plant throughout the winter. In this way, Ugni combines the characteristics of a fruit bush with those of a compact evergreen ornamental shrub. Location and care The Chilean guava prefers a sunny and warm spot. A sheltered location also helps protect the plant during cold winters. Ugni grows in various soil types, as long as excess water can drain away sufficiently. Water regularly after planting. Once well-rooted, the plant can tolerate temporary drought reasonably well. When growing in pots, watering is necessary more frequently, especially during warm summer days. Use a pot with sufficient drainage holes so that the roots do not remain wet for extended periods. Pruning Due to its compact natural growth, little pruning is required. If desired, overly long or unwanted shoots can be cut back to keep the shrub nicely compact and branched. Additionally, remove damaged or dead twigs when necessary. Winter care Ugni molinae 'Pretty Berry' is moderately hardy. In a sheltered spot, the plant can tolerate light to moderate frost, but extra protection is advisable during severe or prolonged frost. Potted plants are particularly sensitive because the root ball can freeze more quickly. A pot can be placed in a sheltered location or wrapped up extra during cold periods. In colder conditions, the leaves may temporarily discolour or become damaged. Special small fruit for garden and terrace 'Pretty Berry' is a nice choice for those who want to grow lesser-known fruit varieties alongside strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. The combination of compact growth, evergreen foliage, white flowers, and aromatic red fruit makes the Chilean guava both ornamental and edible.
